You know which countries are open. Now let us talk forms, fees, and exact steps. This is the part where most people get stuck and pay agents $2000 for something you can do yourself.

Visa Guides 2026: Step-by-Step Application for Germany Opportunity Card, Canada Work Permit, UK Skilled Worker

I will break down 3 visas that are actually working in 2026: Germany Opportunity Card, Canada Work Permit, UK Skilled Worker. No theory. Just click here, fill this, pay this, wait this long.

If you follow this order, you will not miss documents or waste months.

Part 1: Germany Opportunity Card – Chancenkarte – 12 Month Job Search Visa

This is the new visa everyone is talking about. Best part: no job offer needed to enter.

Step 1: Check If You Get 6 Points

Germany uses points. You need 6 minimum. Calculate here:

1. Qualification: 4 points if degree recognized, 3 points if 2-year training

2. Language: 3 points German B2, 2 points German A1, 1 point English B2

3. Experience: 2 points for 5+ years, 1 point for 2+ years

4. Age: 2 points if under 35, 1 point if 35-40

5. Germany connection: 1 point if past study/work in Germany

Do the check on official site: https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/de/visum-aufenthalt/arten/chancenkarte-jobsuche

If you are under 35 with degree + English B2 + 2 years work = you already have 8 points.

Step 2: Get Degree Recognized

Go to Anabin database: https://anabin.kmk.org

Search your university + degree. If it says “H+” and degree is “entspricht”, you are good. If not, apply for “Zeugnisbewertung” at ZAB. Takes 3 months, costs €200.

Step 3: Prove Money

You need €12,324 in blocked account at Fintiba or Expatrio. Or show salary contract if you already have part-time job offer. This money is yours, you withdraw monthly in Germany.

Step 4: Health Insurance

Get travel health insurance for 12 months. Providers: Feather, Ottonova. €60-€100/month. You switch to German public insurance after job.

Step 5: Book Visa Appointment

Go to https://digital.diplo.de/visa and create account. Select “Chancenkarte”. Upload scans of passport, degree, Anabin printout, blocked account, insurance, CV, motivation letter.

Then book appointment at German embassy. Waiting time – (depend on your country/location), in Abuja is 2-4 months. Book early.

Step 6: Visa Interview

Bring originals + copies. Officer will ask 3 things: Why Germany, what job you want, how you’ll find housing. Answer simple. Show points calculation paper.

Step 7: Pay And Wait

Fee: €75. Processing: 4-8 weeks. You get visa sticker for 12 months.

After Arrival:

1. Register address at Bürgeramt within 2 weeks

2. Get residence permit card at Ausländerbehörde

3. Start job search. You can work 20 hours/week immediately

Total cost: €75 visa + €200 degree check + €12,324 blocked account. Timeline: 6-8 months from start to landing.

Official portal: https://digital.diplo.de/visa

Part 2: Canada Work Permit – Employer Specific + Global Talent Stream

Canada work permit always needs job offer first. Exception: Open Work Permit for spouses. For main applicant, employer must do LMIA first.

Step 1: Find LMIA-approved Job

Employer must apply to Employment and Social Development Canada for LMIA. This proves no Canadian can do job. Takes 2 months, costs employer $1000.

How you help: Apply on Job Bank https://www.jobbank.gc.ca and filter “LMIA available”. Or target Global Talent Stream jobs. GTS list is on http://Canada.ca. GTS processing is 2 weeks.

Step 2: Get Job Offer Letter

Letter must include: job title, duties, salary, location, employer LMIA number, start date. Must match NOC code. Salary must be “prevailing wage” for that job in that city.

Step 3: Medical + Police Clearance

Book medical with panel doctor from http://Canada.ca list. Cost $200-$300. Results go direct to IRCC.

Get police clearance from every country you lived 6+ months since age 18. For Nigeria: Nigeria Police Force clearance. Takes 2-4 weeks.

Step 4: Apply Online

Create account on https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship

Select “Work Permit”. Upload: passport, job offer, LMIA copy, medical receipt, police certificates, CV, proof of funds.

Step 5: Prove Funds

Show bank statements for 6 months. $13,757 CAD for 1 person. Must be your name. Fixed deposit is ok.

Step 6: Biometrics + Fee

Pay $155 work permit fee + $85 biometrics = $240 CAD. Book biometrics at VFS Global in Abuja. Done in 10 minutes.

Step 7: Wait

Processing (differ from all countries) – from Nigeria: 16-20 weeks for normal LMIA. 2 weeks for GTS. You get Port of Entry letter, not visa sticker. Show letter at airport, officer stamps work permit.

After Arrival:

1. Get SIN number at Service Canada office. Needed for salary.

2. Health card after 3 months in most provinces.

3. Work only for employer on permit. New job = new permit.

Total cost: $240 + medical $250 + police $50. Timeline: 4-6 months. GTS: 2-3 months.

Official guide: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/permit/temporary.html

Part 3: UK Skilled Worker Visa – Points Based System

UK is strict but clear. No job offer = no visa. Salary rule is king in 2026.

Step 1: Find sponsor employer

Employer must be on UK Register of Licensed Sponsors. Check here: http://gov.uk sponsor list. Search company name before you apply.

Job must be on eligible occupation list. Most IT, nursing, engineering jobs qualify. Salary must be £38,700/year OR “going rate” for job, whichever is higher. Healthcare jobs lower: £29,000.

Step 2: Get Certificate of Sponsorship

Employer creates CoS on UKVI system. You get CoS number. Valid 3 months. Cost to employer: £199 small company, £536 large company.

Step 3: English Test

Need B1 level minimum. IELTS 4.0 in each skill is enough. Exempt if degree taught in English and UK NARIC confirms it. NARIC costs £59.

Step 4: Apply Online

https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa/apply

Create account, enter CoS number, upload passport, CoS, bank statements, TB test if from Nigeria, criminal record if job needs it.

Step 5: Money Requirement

Show £1,270 in bank for 28 days before application. Employer can certify maintenance on CoS and then you do not need bank statements.

Step 6: Immigration Health Surcharge

Pay IHS: £1,035 per year of visa. For 3-year visa = £3,105. This gives you NHS access. Paid during application.

Step 7: Visa fee + Biometrics

Visa fee: £719 for up to 3 years, £1,420 for more than 3 years if job on shortage list. Book biometrics at VFS Abuja. £30 extra for priority.

Step 8: Wait

Standard: 3 weeks. Priority: 5 working days for £500 extra. You get 90-day entry vignette, then BRP card after arrival.

After Arrival:

1. Collect BRP within 10 days

2. Start job on start date on CoS

3. After 5 years, apply Indefinite Leave to Remain

Total cost for 3-year visa: £719 + £3,105 IHS + £19.20 TB test = ~£3,843. Timeline: 1-2 months.

Official page: https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa

Documents Checklist For All 3 Visas – Prepare These Once

1. Passport: 2+ years validity, 2 blank pages

2. CV: 2 pages max. Germany wants photo. UK/Canada no photo.

3. Degree + transcripts: Original + translation if not English

4. Work experience letters: On company letterhead, with duties, dates, salary

5. Police clearance: From home country + any country lived 6+ months

6. Medical: Panel doctor only

7. Photos: White background, 35x45mm

8. Bank statements: 6 months, stamped by bank

Scan everything in PDF, name files clearly: Passport_JohnDoe.pdf. VFS and embassy officers love organized files.

Common Reasons For Refusal And How To Avoid

Germany: Rejected if degree not recognized. Solution: Do Anabin check before spending money.

Canada: Rejected if funds not in your name or less than 6 months history. Solution: Put money in account early.

UK: Rejected if salary below threshold. Solution: Negotiate salary before CoS issued.

All 3: Rejected for fake documents. Do not. They share fraud data.

Timeline Comparison – Which is Fastest

1. UK Skilled Worker with priority: 1 month

2. Canada GTS work permit: 2 months

3. Germany Opportunity Card: 6-8 months

4. Canada normal LMIA: 5-6 months

Fastest if you have job offer: UK. Fastest if no job offer: Germany.

Money Comparison – Total Before Flight

  • Germany: €12,500 blocked account + €275 fees = €12,775. But money is yours.
  • Canada: $540 fees + $250 medical = $790
  • UK: £3,843 fees for 3 years. No savings needed if employer certifies.

Germany looks expensive but blocked account is your living money. UK looks cheap but IHS is gone forever.

Final Checklist Before You Apply

1. Do Anabin check for Germany first

2. Do CRS score check for Canada Express Entry too

3. Search sponsor list for UK before applying jobs

4. Get police clearance now, it expires in 6 months

5. Book embassy appointment today even if documents not ready. You can reschedule.
